Adopt One Day For The Nyungwe Bible Translation
I’m putting this page together for the sake of the Nyungwe Bible translation in Tete, Mozambique. I have served as a consultant for this translation since 1999 and have seen firsthand the fruits of this translation. Scriptures have been slowly but steadily translated in this language since 1995. In 2009 there is a planned publication of a “Growing Bible,” a total of ten books of the Bible available for the first time in this language. About 250,000 people use Nyungwe as their mother-tongue. In addition, it is a trade language used by many thousands of people. Until now, there has never been a Bible.
My idea is to promote the idea of people “adopting” one calendar day for 2008. For each day, the person will agree to:
- Pray for the Nyungwe people and the Bible translation project.
- Promote the Nyungwe Bible translation.
- Provide for the operational expense of the translation (currently about $30 per day.)
I’ve just heard the plans for the Nyungwe project for 2008. They are very exciting:
- Translation of 1&2 Timothy and the Gospel of John
- Publication of Scripture portions that have been sold out
- A monthly journal containing Scripture which will be distributed throughout the province.
- Three Bible seminars in Tete city.
I’d like to hear ideas from you on whether this idea is worth trying and how it might be improved. I’m confident that financing will come together for 2008, andit would really be an encouragement if the Nyungwe Christians knew that people were praying for them and promoting the Bible.
Thanks for your input.
