Blogger bludgeoned by bozos
A fellow blogger has been served a cease & desist order regarding posts he has written regarding a chain of Christian bookstores in the UK. I have a few thoughts on this topic and being a blogger I publish my thoughts and then have a good look at them once they’re published.
First, I would love to be served a cease & desist order. Talk about free publicity. Talk about getting to play sympathetic David to the nasty corporate Goliath. As a blogger desperate for publicity during the slow summer months a C&D would be a dream come true. Hmmm, who shall I slander…
Since the blogger in question is a cartoonist, I’ve decided to publish a cartoon in support:
[Note: You’re welcome to use this image. Just credit Lingamish and link to this post.]
This whole affair ticks me off. One idea is that we could all grab Dave’s old posts off the Internet caches and republish them on our own sites. I tend to agree with Doug and Peter that Dave doesn’t need to be intimidated in this situation but I can certainly respect Dave for being scared to get in a legal tangle with a deep-pocketed opponent.
Predictably, the perpetrator of this court order now has an ugly public relations disaster on their hands. Dave Walker is now the people’s hero. Mark Brewer and his stupid American corporation are going to be hated, ridiculed and generally scorned out of town. Good thinking, guys.

I love the cartoon! Maybe you can be the new Dave Walker, if the original ends up in jail or, worse still, sentenced to years of continuous Lambeth Conferences. But then David Walker (actually he hates being called that) should be living up to his first name and taking sling shots at Goliath rather than letting himself be trampled.
The problem is that Mark Brewer and his corporation have already been hated, ridiculed and generally scorned out of town. They are trying to redeem what is already a publicity disaster. But of course they are causing themselves a new one. What I find most sad is the damage they are doing to the cause of the Orthodox churches, by claiming to be Orthodox and promoting the cause of a 16th century Serbian forebear of Radovan Karadzic.
What horrible and unfunny thing to say, Peter. May the likes of Mehmet never come after you and yours like he did after Moldova.
Holy Father Stephen the Great, pray to God for us!
As for the topic of this post, some should shake some sense into this Mark Brewer. There goes militant Americanist “Orthodoxy,” once again!
Interestingly, the pages are still available via Google cache

This story might be the reason for the sudden cease and desist order, of course it might not too, but it seems timing wise interesting.
I hope you don’t mind if I use and acknowledge your cartoon.

Let us all be Dave Walkers now!
Kudos for the hippo cartoon. Hope you don’t mind if I use it (with acknowlegement) on my blog.
More than welcome. I didn’t see it on your blog but quite enjoyed your drawings!
What I have found amusing is how most of the bloggers are just copying the entire list originally on Matt’s blog without really reading it so they all say “Kudos for the cartoon above” even though they don’t show the cartoon. Bloggers aren’t the most careful academics… And the spelling sometimes, argh!
I’ve just posted your cartoon together one of my own. Hope you’ll approve.
