Nyungwe Nyuws
At the end of last year, I launched a small campaign on this blog to raise awareness and funding for the Nyungwe Bible translation. I was really pleased to see the response of my readers. This morning I was looking at the financial report for the Nyungwe project and it clearly shows that the first three months of Bible translation for 2008 were fully funded by people responding to this campaign! Another thing is that I have seen awareness of the project grow among my online friends which means that more people are praying for the Nyungwe project than ever before.
Thank you very much for mentioning the Nyungwe translation on your blogs. Thank you for your prayers for this project. And thanks for giving financially to keep it going.
Let me share a few more pieces of news about the Nyungwe project:
- 1,500 copies of a Scripture sheet were distributed among the churches for the first time in April. It has not been a completely successful project. For more details on that, read Aid in Africa: Or “Why do all my great ideas keep flopping?!?”
- The translators were excited to move into a new office (actually a converted garage) but have just discovered that the person renting that house is being evicted so all their work and funds for fixing up the place have been lost. See a photo of “The Garage.”
- There is a chance that most of the Mozambican Bible translations including Nyungwe will be fully funded by a major donor. Until then, consider adopting a week of Nyungwe translation (7 days x $30). Read about online giving here: Online Giving.
- This month a translation consultant will be visiting Mozambique to work with the Nyungwe translators on Mark and 1 Timothy.
And here are a few prayer requests:
- Pray for the Scripture sheets that they might be widely distributed and used.
- Pray for Encontro Fraternal, the local organization that sponsors the Nyungwe translation. They are a crucial link to the churches but struggle with administrative organization.
- Pray for funding for a permanent office for the translation. The Encontro Fraternal has a piece of property (see below) but no funding to build on it.
