The Room With A View Meme

2008 February 23
by David Ker

It’s a lovely morning. The coffee is Trillium Trail from Mt. Hood Coffee roasters, the music is Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and outside my window the morning sun is filtering through the trees. Rather than post one of my idiotic Satire Day posts I thought I would just post a couple of photos and invite some of my friends to do the same.

In this photo you can see the view out my window and also quite a few details of my beloved messy desk. There’s that ubiquitous hippo and front and center my Sunrise Cafe mug that is now almost twenty years old and has survived life in countless countries. The binoculars are on the windowsill in hopes of getting a view of a sunbird or a helmetshrike. I don’t use my WorldSpace radio much anymore since I let the subscription expire but I do occasionally use it for BBC. That little white thing on the windowsill is my Nokia 5300 which is used for everything from connecting my laptop to the Internet, reminding us to take our malaria pills on Sunday and even making phone calls. Out the window is the view of our front yard. The cosmos have bloomed like crazy and some are as tall as I am. The bars on the windows as well as the mosquito screen remind you that we’re in Africa.

The view from my desk

Now, who shall I torture tag? I definitely would like to tag Nick Norelli since he has tagged me before and is not averse to showing photos on his blog and I know he’ll do some tagging. I would tag Estêbãn Vasquez but I’ve never seen any photos on his black hole blog other than his own gorgeous mug. I will definitely tag Tim Bulkeley since the view out his window is definitely exotic during his sabbatical in Sri Lanka. Maybe Peter Kirk would respond if I tagged him since he is in a new house. The rather secretive [rhymes with kerouac] is one of my favorite bloggers but I doubt he would give us a photo. Maybe another beloved Canadian Bob MacDonald would take a moment away from his schema-ing to show us a view. Now, for the token female… This is a toughie. Most of them are blogging under duress so the ones I’d really like to tag I can’t. Kathy Hanson at Beyond Words is one of my favorite blog babes and she has even coughed up photos of her fridge door so she’s a good possibility. How could I forget? Thainamu! She’s got photos galore on her blog. Now how about Africa? Rob in Benin is a natural choice being an exhibitionist and a decent photographer. Also Victor at Ndagha has great photos of Malawi and Sweden so he might come through.

For those tagged: Share a photo of the view from your desk and tag five other people.

That’s the neatest messy desk I think I’ve ever seen :) I love your fun Saturday posts, which always make me laugh.

Call that a sign of genius? Wait until you see my response to this meme! But it will have to wait for a sunny day if you want to see anything outside the window.

Thanks to your encouragement, I have made a major life decision.

My self portrait is now at the top of my sidebar. I set out to capture the truest essence of myself in a single photograph. I think I got that… and a whole lot more.

I would love to oblige both with this and with Nick Norelli’s booshelf photo meme, but alas, a camera have I not, neither a place to upload!

    very nice.

A sunny day in England? Maybe you could borrow a photo from someone in Australia. These are the nicest digs we’ve ever lived in in Africa so it’s a nice change from living in the Zambezi valley where it is hot and dry and brown!

[rhymes with kerouac], it’s nice to get a look at your mug.

Thanks to Thainamu and Bob who replied with posts of their own. Not sure why the trackbacks haven’t shown up yet.

We have lots of sunny days, thanks. In fact this month has been amazingly sunny, although sometimes chilly. The sun is shining brightly as I write, and it’s not cold today. I have a photo ready to upload when I get round to posting my own meme answer.

Is this what you meant when you said you’re severely meme challenged at the moment? Won’t you tell us who your teachers are now that you’re forty? (AFter your nap?) Happy Birthday!

Hi, I’m sorry I still have not managed to respond to this, missed out on the view of the floor at my mum’s flat (no furniture as it is being sold, no Internet either so not much of an office) and our friend’s place in London (no time), London School of Theology (no outgoing Internet ?!) and now in an Internet cafe in a mall in Bangkok, (running out of time)… if there is Internet at the camp, I promise to try to post in the next week or two! Really!!
