Cyber-Psalm 21
The sea is a threat to our certainties.
The ocean wind can rip the shingles off our suppositions.
The sneaker wave sweeps us from the beach
And leaves nothing but foam and rattling pebbles.
The icy water which I see from the shore is deep.
It’s fine to dabble my toes in the surf.
But I fear the waves and the deep
And all unseen creatures beneath the surface.
We see least what is most. A world underwater!
God is like that. Hinted yet hidden.
Heaven and death are seen only from the shore.
Unwelcoming worlds visited only by drowning.
Still I’m drawn to the beach.
At low tide I will walk into the waves.
The cold and the crash will awaken my sleeping soul.
My heart is not drawn to the horizon but to the depths.
It’s eazy to get caught up in what we see around us and ignore what is not seen. The sea, the mountain, the forest,and the river only show what is on the surface and we really have to work to discover what is hidden. Eternity will hold many supprises for us, as we see today but fail to discover what eternity holds.
As you pointed out, God has hinted what the future holds, but we will never really know until we get there. I am excited about today, tomorrow, and eternity, as I trust God and try to be obedient.
Your poetry gives us much to think about.
I’m glad to see a new Cyber-Psalm. I’ve missed them. The first line jumped out at me. I would say that ” a threat to our certainties” would pretty much summarizes the specific angle I’ve been experiencing God’s work in my life over the past year. Precarious and destabilizing, but a place of sweet grace as well. This cyber-Psalm kind of runs together in my mind with themes from Psalm 93.

eclexia, I wrote a song based on Psalm 93: The Lord Is King. I have a thing about water imagery. Must be because I spent the first nine months of my life underwater!
